Markalite in progress

A nice color photo of the real thing

My schematic, drawn in Adobe Illustrator

Tank mechanism

Tank attached to leg

First failed attempt at the lens

Fuel tank and foot tank

Molds for making multiple items

Cast multiples

3rd attempt at the lens

I think this one will work

Parts made on a lathe, thanks to my friend Mikey

No, not a toilet seat, but part of the upper structure

Middle structure that fuel tanks surround

Partially assembled components

Vacuum Forming: the setup

After several tries, I get a good one

Lens with some of the other components

Next step: photo etching...

Support braces clayed up and ready for the rubber

My first attempt at photoetching; the artwork is exposed onto the brass. Unfortunately this did not work out very well, and I don't have time to experiment, so I think I'll have to get this done professionally

Painting begins on the non-etched parts. Said parts will probably not arrive for two weeks, making the schedule for this project to be rather tight.

I've finished everything that I can before the etched parts arrive (the film was sent to the etchers today). So here are some shots of the Markalite waiting for photoetch. Pay no attention to the unpainted cross members between the legs; they will be replaced with etched parts.

While waiting for the etched parts, I decided to make the base.

The base will come with kit, including the foliage material.

The photoetched parts arrived today!

They did a beautiful job on these.
